A 12–18 month commitment deserves clear answers. Below is the total compensation you can expect, when payments arrive, and the support that comes with it — including insurance, reimbursements, and mental health resources at no cost to you.
All compensation is held by SeedTrust escrow — paid milestone-by-milestone, not contingent on agency cash flow.
Stipends auto-deposit on the 1st; milestone bonuses within 5 business days of the trigger event.
All compensation paid is yours — no agency cuts, no retroactive deductions, no contingent payback.
Below is the complete list of items in your compensation schedule. Specific amounts are confirmed in your personalized written compensation schedule after intake — see FAQ "Why no per-milestone breakdown?" for context.
Compensation is structured around milestones — never a single lump sum at the end. You receive direct deposits throughout the 12–18 month journey, with the bulk concentrated in the pregnancy phase. Cumulative percentages below are typical pacing.

Compensation isn't the whole story. Below are the things you receive in addition — most of which other agencies fold into base compensation or charge separately to intended parents.

Surrogacy compensation is taxable income. CBS issues the appropriate IRS tax form each January for the prior tax year. Reimbursements (travel, meals, childcare during medical visits) are typically not taxable when properly documented as expense reimbursement. Tax treatment varies by your state of residence and individual circumstances. We strongly recommend consulting a Certified Public Accountant familiar with surrogacy income before your first compensation payment — many CPAs offer free 30-minute intro calls.
This is general information, not tax advice. CBS is not a tax preparer or financial advisor. Consult a CPA for guidance specific to your situation.
The full application takes about 30 minutes online. Your coordinator reaches out within 5 business days with a personalized compensation schedule based on your situation.
