Pacing of payments

When you receive what — across your journey.

Compensation is structured around milestones — never a single lump sum at the end. You receive direct deposits throughout the 12–18 month journey, with the bulk concentrated in the pregnancy phase. Cumulative percentages below are typical pacing.

  1. Week 4–12

    Contract activation

Tranche 1 of 9 — paid via SeedTrust within 5 business days of mutual confirmation.

    ~3%

    Cumulative

  2. Week 12–20

    Medical preparation begins

Tranche 2 — cycle preparation phase.

    ~6%

    Cumulative

  3. Week 22–26

    Embryo transfer

Tranche 3 — transfer day phase.

    ~12%

    Cumulative

  4. Pregnancy week 6

    Pregnancy and heartbeat confirmation

Tranche 4 — monthly schedule begins.

    ~16%

    Cumulative

  5. Pregnancy week 12

    First trimester complete

    Tranche 5.

    ~24%

    Cumulative

  6. Pregnancy week 20

    Mid-pregnancy and base tranche

Tranche 6 — base compensation begins flowing.

    ~50%

    Cumulative

  7. Pregnancy week 28

    Third trimester and base

Tranche 7 — base compensation continues.

    ~75%

    Cumulative

  8. Delivery

    Delivery and final base tranche

    Tranche 8.

    ~95%

    Cumulative

  9. 6 weeks postpartum

    Cumulative

Each tranche size is set in your personalized written compensation schedule (provided after the intake call) — adjustable within reason for cash-flow needs. The cumulative percentage shown is typical pacing.

Things often hidden by other agencies.

Common questions

Compensation FAQ.

Don't see your question? Ask in your free 30-minute intake call.

Two reasons. (1) Every surrogate's compensation is different — actual amounts vary by your state of residence, prior surrogacy experience, medical insurance situation, individual contract terms, and case-specific factors. Publishing fixed line-item amounts would either mislead you about what your compensation will be, or force us to inflate every line as a buffer. (2) Per-milestone breakdowns get used against surrogates — when one piece of your compensation becomes public, other agencies use it as a ceiling in negotiations. We protect your negotiating room by publishing the 11 items in your scope plus a total range, then giving you a personalized written compensation schedule after your intake call — itemized and locked at contract signing.

Important

A note on taxes.

Surrogacy compensation is taxable income. CBS issues the appropriate IRS tax form each January for the prior tax year. Reimbursements (travel, meals, childcare during medical visits) are typically not taxable when properly documented as expense reimbursement. Tax treatment varies by your state of residence and individual circumstances. We strongly recommend consulting a Certified Public Accountant familiar with surrogacy income before your first compensation payment — many CPAs offer free 30-minute intro calls.

This is general information, not tax advice. CBS is not a tax preparer or financial advisor. Consult a CPA for guidance specific to your situation.
